What are Mechanical rights?
Updated over 10 months ago

The Mechanical right is the right to copy and reproduce Musical Works.

Music streaming as well as TV and Radio play involves the copying of Musical Works - so streaming services and broadcasters must pay mechanical royalties to the copyright owners of the Musical Works they copy.

Mechanical royalties are administered by mechanical copyright collections societies such as MCPS in the UK, and MLC and Harry Fox Agency, in the US.
