How do registered collection shares work?

The shares registered at society level confirm what we as the nominated publisher have been assigned to collect, not what we pay through.

As stated in our publishing terms, there is a 90/10 rate set between Ditto and our songwriters. This rate is applied internally when processing royalties received from the society and will not be visible at society level.

When viewing a work at society level, clients will primarily see that Ditto are collecting 100% of the Mechanical share and 50% of the Performing share.

Most societies allow the publisher to collect 100% of Mechanicals, but universal policy dictates that 50% of the Performing share must be allocated directly to the writer if they are affiliated with a Performing Rights Organisation (PRO).

In this scenario, the writer will collect 50% of their royalties directly from their chosen PRO (Writer share), and Ditto will collect and pay through the remaining 50% (Publisher Share).

Ditto will collect both the writer and publisher share of Performing if the writer is not affiliated with a PRO.

To complicate matters, there is a grouping of Mechanical Rights Organisations (MRO) that also prevent publishers from collecting 100% of the Mechanical share. In these cases, the writer will also receive their writer share of Mechanicals directly from their nominated MRO.

The table below confirms the standard share Ditto Music Publishing can collect for writers directly affiliated with the listed MROs:
