Why is my royalty payment lower than I expected?

Many different factors affect royalty payments. No streaming services have fixed "pay-per-stream" rates and the value of a stream can vary depending on where your listeners are based, their subscription type and lots more.

For example, Spotify does not monetise:

  • A song’s first 1000 streams

  • Plays under 30 seconds long

  • Any artificial or abnormal streaming activity

  • Noise recordings (like white noise or nature sounds) under 2 minutes long

For more info about Spotify's monetisation policies, check out this article.

Please keep in mind: You might occasionally see a difference between the streams reported in your Spotify for Artists stats compared to your Ditto dashboard. This is because our dashboard only displays streams that are eligible to earn royalties, while Spotify for Artists sometimes reports all streams - including those that have not been monetised.

Royalties from Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube and Amazon Music will be paid into your Ditto account each month, but there can be delays of up to 3-4 months for other stores to update your sales.

We'll always pay 100% of the royalties you've earned straight into your account as soon as we receive them.
