How to declare AI use on a release

Spotify and Apple Music now require every release to declare whether it contains AI-generated content. You'll need to provide this information when you create a release so we can pass it on to the stores.

How to declare AI-generated content

On Stage 2 of the Release Builder, choose the option that applies to your release as a whole: No AI, Partially AI or Entirely AI.

No AI: Choose this if there is no AI-generated content on any part of your release.

Partially AI: Choose this if AI was used for parts of your release, for example in the composition, lyrics, production or vocals of one or more tracks.

Entirely AI: Choose this if your release is fully AI-generated.

If you're unsure, pick the option that most honestly reflects how the music was made. Your answer is shared with the stores, so it's important it's accurate.

For partially AI releases, add further details to your track credits.

When you select Partially AI, you'll also need to state where AI was used in each track of your release.

At the Tracklist section on Stage 2, click Edit Metadata next to a track and scroll to Track Credits.

Next to each credit (such as Composer, Lyricist, Producer/Engineer and Performer), there will be an AI Contribution Type dropdown. Choose one for each person credited:

  • No AI: this person's contribution did not involve AI.

  • Partly AI: AI was used for part of this contribution.

  • Fully AI: this contribution was fully AI-generated.

If a track credit is partly or fully AI, enter the name of the person who generated the contribution, rather than the AI model or tool they used.

For example, if a track was written and performed by humans but produced with AI tools, you would set the Composer, Songwriter and Performer credits to No AI and the Producer/Engineer credit to Partly AI or Fully AI, depending on how much AI was involved.
